Android Phone Receives First Text Message Sent Directly From Space

To allow for more stable global connectivity, the startup Lynk, founded in 2015, intends to send telephone antennas into space. And what seems like a distant dream for a startup is becoming more and more real. The company was able to send a text message directly from space to an Android smartphone.

On its official website, the company says its mission is “to democratize access to knowledge, take advantage of proprietary technology and employ high caliber people with diverse backgrounds”.

The text message was sent from a low-earth orbit satellite to an unmodified Android device in the Falkland Islands. Everything happened on February 24 and was validated by an external observer, with no connection to the company. The entire event was recorded and posted on the Lynk channel on Vimeo.

Although Lynk is not the only company that tries to take telecommunications into space, it was the first to do so effectively. Now, the startup works with 30 other mobile phone operators so that space technology can reach the market and, consequently, our homes. If all goes well, soon we will be able to have more efficient and low-cost mobile connectivity, improving communication between devices from all over the planet.

“With the permission of the regulators, we are confident that we will be able to bring a world-class solution to a market of billions of people by the end of this year,” said the company’s CEO and co-founder, Charles Miller, in a statement.

From the progress it has made, it appears that Lynk will be able to achieve its goal. Earlier this month, the company had already sent the fourth mobile phone antenna into space onboard SpaceX’s CRS-20 mission. With this new antenna positioned, the company plans to include more countries in its next tests, to be carried out later this year.

Apple Develops 6G Technology And It May Be Tried In 2030

After releasing the 5G iPhone some time ago, the company made by Steve Jobs reportedly started developing 6G technology. It was stated that the company was currently opening job vacancies.

The vacancies are intended for research technicians whose job is to develop 6G technology. Later they will be placed in Apple offices in Silicon Valley and San Diego, where they develop wireless technology and chip designs.

It was stated that this technology could be used in 2030. And interestingly, the analysts say that 6G can be 100 times faster than the 5G technology which is considered to be very fast at this time.

Cool! Apple Watch Develops Technology To Detect Early Heart Failure

Apple Watch is already known to save a person’s life. The feature embedded in the smartwatch notifies the user’s condition which can also be seen by others.

And now, Apple announced that they will expand the technology. The new technology will be studied first and the study was led by Canadian cardiologist Dr. Heather Ross of the Ted Rogers Center for Heart Research.

They will later develop the Apple Watch to have the ability to detect heart failure early.

“We believe that the biometric data obtained from the Apple Watch can provide comparable, precise, and accurate measurements of fitness, prognostic markers, and early warning signals, compared to traditional diagnostics,” said Ross.

With this technology, the chance to survive is even higher because we already know our disease from an early age.

The study will last three months and include a follow-up of two years. Participants will be given Apple Watch Series 6 which includes a blood oxygen monitor and an iPhone.

Cool! Nigerian Students Build Robots to Care for Covid-19 Patients

Several Nigerian students have created robots that are expected to help treat Covid-19 patients in hospitals. This robot can be controlled remotely, thereby reducing exposure to the Covid-19 virus from patients to medical personnel.

This robot is equipped with the ability to measure temperature, transport drugs and medical personnel can communicate with patients through cameras and screens.

The robot is in the form of a cabinet with wheels that are controlled remotely and is nicknamed “MAIROBOT”.

In one demonstration, a school nurse fills MAIROBOT with drugs, while a student uses a controller and glasses to look through the camera, then moves the machine through the corridor and into a mock isolation room to scan a student’s forehead for his temperature.

“I hope MAIROBOT can reduce and reduce the risks faced by these health workers — I want health workers to be safer,” said Nabila Abbas.

The robotics team at Glisten International Academy in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, started to collaborate online with MAIROBOT, then met to complete a project in their lab.

However, MAIROBOT, which took about three months to build, is still in its early stages.

During the demonstration, the doors to the isolation room must be left open, and the robots can only carry drugs. So, the patient in question will take the medicine himself, while the nurse watches the camera.

“We are currently refining it,” said David Adeniyi, the teacher who oversees the robotics team.

MAIROBOT is expected to be commercially available one day. On the other hand, Abbas believes that the use of robots in the medical industry will not stop just for handling Covid-19.

“Other infectious diseases can also be treated with MAIROBOT, such as Ebola, Lassa fever and all these infectious viruses,” he said.
