Coronavirus: Demand Makes Whatsapp Increase Server Capacity

Social isolation in the main countries affected by the new coronavirus epidemic has more than doubled the volume of voice messages and audio calls on WhatsApp and Messenger.

The phenomenon was reported by the CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, at a conference on Wednesday (18).

The manager stated that the company would double the capacity of its servers to avoid interference or interruption of services.

However, the forecast is that this demand will grow even more since the number of people infected by the pandemic in the world continues to increase and forcing countries to adopt restrictive measures.

“We need to ensure that we are as capable as possible, from an infrastructure standpoint, to ensure that these things [services] stop working,” said Zuckerberg.

Data from the monitoring map of the coronavirus pandemic at the Johns Hopkins Medical University in the United States points to more than 222,000 patients infected with Covid-19 in 159 countries and territories, in addition to 9100 deaths.

At the conference, Zuckerberg spoke explicitly about the situation in Italy. According to him, the volume of voice calls in the country corresponds to the “normal peak” at the turn of the year. Residents are in full quarantine and can leave their homes only on essential occasions. The nation already has 35,000 confirmed cases and more than 2,900 deaths. From Wednesday (18) to Thursday (19), 478 patients died as a result of Covid-19 in the country.

Faced with the economic effects of the pandemic, Facebook announced plans to invest $ 100 million to guarantee financial aid to local businesses in at least 30 countries.

Also, Whatsapp will donate $ 1 million to the International Fact-Verification Network (IFCN) of the Poynter Institute to combat false news about the new coronavirus.

WhatsApp Will Present Chat History Migration Feature Between Android and iOS

For those of you WhatsApp users who just want to move from Android to iOS or vice versa, they will definitely feel confused when looking for how the WhatsApp chat history can be moved.

Because until now WhatsApp still has not provided support for transferring chat backups from one platform to another.

However, recently WABetaInfo announced that now WhatsApp (Facebook) is making a migration feature that allows Android users to move their data to iOS, and vice versa.

There is even a leaked screenshot showing a menu display that says ‘Move chats to Android’ where users have to update the latest WhatsApp version to do this.

If this leak is true, of course, this feature will help WhatsApp users who are planning to move to another operating system and don’t want all the chats on their previous device to just disappear.

Unfortunately, there is no information on when this feature will be presented. Sometimes WhatsApp takes a while to release a feature because they have to test it first.

Features of Twitter's Clubhouse Competitors, Spaces to be Released in April 2021

Some time ago Twitter has tested a feature called Spaces, which is an audio chat room so that people can enter and hear conversations from other users.

Twitter Spaces itself was presented by Twitter to compete with the popularity of Clubhouse, which is still one of the most popular audio chat applications.

However, because Clubhouse is still only available on iOS, Twitter also takes advantage of the support of its social media application to provide similar features that can be used by both Android and iOS users.

Now Twitter has announced that it will soon launch the Spaces feature publicly in April 2021. Of course, this is a good step from Twitter considering that the audio chat trend has not decreased.

“We confirm that the release of Spaces is for everyone, both on Android and iOS, not only for testers in the beta program,” said a Twitter spokesman quoted from TechCrunch.

One of the advantages of Twitter Spaces apart from wider support is that room makers will be able to play various types of music when welcoming people who enter the room.

Unbelievable! Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s first tweet was offered US $ 2.5 million

Unbelievable! Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey's first tweet was offered US $ 2.5 million

Twitter boss Jack Dorsey auctioned off his first tweet, which was uploaded on March 22, 2006.

“just setting up my twttr,” tweeted Dorsey at the time.

The simple tweet has received auction bids of up to the US $ 2.5 million. These tweets will be sold as a non-fungible token (NFT), a kind of digital certificate that identifies the owner of virtual objects.

The buyer will then receive the NFT certificate which has been signed and verified by Dorsey. The metadata from the original tweet will also belong to the buyer.

However, these tweets can still be accessed by the public even though they have been purchased at a high price.

CNBC reported the ownership of this NFT is also recorded in the blockchain, a digital network that also supports cryptocurrencies.

The difference is, NFT assets cannot be exchanged with one another, so it becomes an item that cannot be duplicated and makes it super rare.

The highest bidder in Jack Dorsey’s tweet auction was the CEO of Bridge Oracle, Sina Estavi, who bid up to the US $ 2.5 million.

Crypto items have recently become popular as collectibles. For example, a digital rendition of a Nyan Cat meme from 2011 has sold for up to $ 601,753.18.

Even so, many netizens do not understand what is the benefit of buying that one tweet that cannot be fully owned.
