Iranian hackers attack Israeli organizations. They target providers of basic services

The ClearSky team has discovered a new threat of attacks by Iranian hackers. People working on the Siamesekitten team have targeted Israeli suppliers of services such as oil, gas, and telecommunications services.

The Siamese kitten hacking group (also called Lyceum or Hexane) is an Iranian APT group operating in the Middle East and Africa. ClearSky specialists found that their attacks took place in May and July this year.

Attack method

Iranian cybercriminals, as part of their attacks on Israeli companies, impersonated employees of a given company or the HR department of other corporations. Potential victims were tempted by false job offers in large, well-known companies. Fraudsters pretending to be recruiters sent, among other things, spreadsheets containing job offers with detailed information.

The interested employees accessed the phishing pages that were sent to them, listed in the offer file. On the sites crafted by the hackers, there was a hidden file that launched the backdoor Milan. The next stage of the attack was to download a remote access Trojan named DanBot, which was possible thanks to an earlier backdoor.

So you can see that the Siamesekitten group put a lot of work into their attacks. In addition to creating fake pages and campaigns targeting potential victims, hackers also created profiles on LinkedIn. This, in turn, could be used by them to further build a database of potential victims, as well as to authenticate their intentions.

Spy campaign

According to ClearSky, such campaigns by Siamesekitten are typical espionage activities. As with other groups, it is possible that intelligence gathering is the first step towards launching impersonation attacks.

The specialists also found that the attacks were similar in their manner to that of another campaign. In their opinion, the North Korean operation, aimed at the defense industry at the time, was carried out in a very similar way.

Starting November 1, 2021, this smartphone can't use WhatsApp anymore

Currently, WhatsApp continues to present new features to provide convenience to its users. But instead, WhatsApp had to stop supporting a number of smartphones that were considered ‘old’ and could no longer run the new feature.

Recently, it has announced that it will stop support for several smartphones with certain operating systems, both Android and iOS, starting on November 1st.

It is stated that the device in question is a smartphone with the operating system Android 4.0.3 and below or iOS 9 and below.

If users don’t upgrade their smartphone before November 1st, then later they can no longer use WhatsApp on that device.

As an example, smartphones that run with the Android 4.0.3 operating system and below include the Samsung Galaxy SII, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Core, Galaxy Ace 2, LG Optimus F3, to Sony Xperia Arc S.

Meanwhile, for iOS, devices that do not support WhatsApp if they do not update the latest iOS version include the iPhone SE, iPhone 6, to iPhone 6S Plus.

Therefore, users are advised to check whether there is a software update provided by each vendor so that the device can still use the latest WhatsApp version.

Starting Today, Log In to Twitter Can Already Use Google or Apple Accounts

Some time ago Twitter was said to be conducting trials to provide support so that users can log in using a Google or Apple account so that it is easier.

Indeed, currently many applications provide support for logging in or signing up with other accounts, which means that users do not need to have a new account for the services they want to access.

And now Twitter has announced that it has provided support for logging in and signing up using a Google or Apple account on its social media platform.

“Currently, when you log in or sign up to join Twitter, you have the option to use a Google account or Apple ID,” wrote the Twitter Support account.

For users with Google accounts, they can log in or sign up on the Twitter mobile application and the web version. However, for Apple, this support is still only supported on iOS.

Especially for Apple, now Apple has a special login system that allows users to hide their email with a secondary email that is generated by Apple so that later incoming messages from the secondary email will be forwarded to the user’s primary email.

What do you think, does the presence of this support help you when you join Twitter? Write in the comments column below, guys!
