Recently, one of the fathers of the internet, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, has decided to traverse the source code of the World Wide Web that he created 30 years ago.
It is known that the source code is sold in the form of NFT (non-fungible tokens) which are currently widely used to sell digital works such as digital designs, photos, and others.
Auctioned by RM Sotheby’s, it was discovered that Berners-Lee provided not only 10,000 lines of source code containing HTML and HTTP codes, but also a letter from Berners-Lee as well as a printable vector file.
In addition, there is also a 30-minute video that shows how the code from the World Wide Web is typed so that it is proof of its authenticity.
Quoted from the BBC, Berners-Lee chose to sell his source code as NFT because NFT is a new thing on the internet that is very innovative to package the origins behind the creation of the web.
“This is a natural thing, like when you are a scientist and write code for years. It felt quite right to present my signature on an artifact that is now fully digital,” said Berners-Lee.
It is known that the auction, titled ‘This Changed Everything’, will be auctioned by Sotheby’s on June 23-30, 2021 with prices starting from US $ 1,000.
Later the proceeds of the auction will be given entirely to a charitable organization chosen directly by Berners-Lee and his wife.
Electronic Waste is Predicted to Reach 57.4 Million Metric Tons in 202
The increasing number of electronic goods produced, it also makes the amount of electronic waste produced also increases every year.
Recently, the WEEE Forum has released a report which states that there is an increase in global e-waste production by 2 metric tons or 3-4 per cent every year.
In 2021, it is predicted that the total electronic waste generated could reach 57.4 million metric tons, which of course must be addressed immediately.
Pascal Leroy as the General of the WEEE Forum also said that there are several reasons that cause electronic waste to increase, one of which is the lack of awareness of people to return used electronic goods so that they can be recycled again.
“As long as people don’t return used goods, damaged equipment, sell them, or even donate them, we still have to mine new materials, which of course damage the environment,” said Leroy, quoted from Eurekalert.
But now a number of big countries such as Europe are starting to implement policies to reduce electronic waste, one of which is making a standard USB Type-C port for gadgets from various brands.
In addition, eliminating the charger adapter in every iPhone purchase is also a pretty good effort in reducing the excessive electronic waste production.
Microsoft shuts down LinkedIn in China as rules tighten
On Thursday (14/10/2021) Microsoft said it would close its career-oriented social network LinkedIn in China after seven years of launch. This is done as Beijing tightens control over technology companies.
Companies based in the United States that will replace LinkedIn in China with the application to apply for jobs without networking features, said senior vice president of engineering Mohak Shroff, reported Reuters.
“We face a much more challenging operating environment and greater requirements in China,” Shroff said in a blog post.
According to The Wall Street Journal, LinkedIn was given time by China’s internet regulator to better oversee content on the site.
The move by China is part of a broad policy by the government to tighten its grip on the economy, including targeting private education, property and casinos.
LinkedIn, which was launched in China in 2014, is not only a place to find work but also a place to exchange business information and news.
Not only LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter have been banned from China for more than a decade. Meanwhile, Google left China in 2010.
Windows 11 Bug Makes AMD Processors Slow, Microsoft and AMD Find Solutions
Microsoft has just launched the latest Windows 11 operating system which is present as a free upgrade for Windows 10 users. However, since it has just been released, there are a number of bugs that appear in the OS.
If previously there were users who reported Windows 11 bugs that made RAM usage wasteful, now there are other reports that say that there is a bug that makes users with AMD processors experience a performance slowdown.
Quoted from GSMArena, it is stated that the bug causes AMD processors running Windows 11 to experience a performance slowdown for applications by 3-5% and Esports games reach 10-15% performance slowdown.
It was stated that this problem was caused by a bug that made Windows 11 prohibit AMD processors from using the preferred core feature optimally.
AMD itself has received the bug report and said that this problem mostly occurs to users who use AMD processors with 8 cores or more and TDP above 65W.
AMD will also work with Microsoft to solve this problem. It is predicted that this problem can be resolved by the end of October so that users are not harmed by the bug.
