Who created the Signal Private Messenger App and why should it be used

Surely in recent days, you have heard about the Signal Private Messenger app, which is known for its high levels of security. Of course, since it is an app that has become famous very recently, it is normal to be curious about it. In this opportunity, we will clarify for you what is related to Who created the Private Messenger App and why should it be used?

Who created the Signal Private Messenger app? – The story behind the app

The Signal Private Messenger application was created and launched by an American computer security specialist or hacker known by his pseudonym Moxie Marlinspike, in May 2010.

The history of Signal began to develop and take shape when in 2010 Moxie Marlinspike in collaboration with the robotics expert Stuart Anderson founded Whisper Systems and later in May of the same year they launched Signal, which was originally called TextSecure.

At first, TextSecure was a fairly simple messaging app, but it already had a pretty good encryption algorithm, which improved over time and is so much the case that Whisper Systems was acquired by Twitter on November 28, 2011.

After this, Marlisnpike decided to found the new Open Whispers Systems, which represents the essence of its apps, since they are all open source available to developers.

From that moment on, Moxie Marlinspike and his collaborators focused on improving the app and by 2015, it was not a simple messaging app, but the possibility of sending voice messages and encrypted attachments had also been incorporated.

Who created the Signal Private Messenger App and why should it be used

By this time, TextSecure changes its name to Signal Private Messenger and is much closer to the great and secure app that we know today, which even today is still considered the most powerful end-to-end encryption.

It is so much so that, even WhatsApp adopted the same end-to-end encryption implemented in Signal and, in 2016, it began to collaborate with Open Whispers Systems on certain projects.

Why should Signal Private Messenger be used?

The purpose of Moxie Marlinspike when creating Signal Private Messenger, was to create a platform where people can communicate without being afraid of others intercepting their messages and/or calls, so Marlinspike with Signal achieved just that, preventing our privacy from being violated.

And it is so much so that, to use Signal, you only need to enter your phone number, which protects user information even from the app, since it keeps the amount of user data stored by the application to a minimum.

For those who still wonder what Signal is, at first glance, it is an ordinary messaging app: it has chat windows, you can call, send attachments, and emojis.

But, as simple as it may seem, behind all these high-security technology works, where encryption not only protects messages from hackers but also the app itself, guaranteeing that only the sender and receiver of the message will see it.

An interesting fact is that it has advanced settings beyond encryption, available to users, where they are allowed to set passwords to conversations, configure protection against screenshots, messages that self-destruct, and other security functions.

Aren’t all of these compelling reasons to use Signal, especially for lovers and advocates of technology security and privacy?

Well, if you want more reasons why you should use Signal, it is that many recognized people and entities have mentioned that they use it and even recommend its constant use.

For example, the renowned North American technology consultant Edward Snowden declared on Twitter that it is the app he uses every day, as well as renowned cryptographers such as Bruce Schneier and Matthew D. Green recommend it, and Signal is in fact the app used by employees of the European Union and some members of the American Democratic Party.

The truth is that many people are looking for alternatives to WhatsApp or want to know between Signal, Telegram, and WhatsApp which is better, but they must find out for themselves which one they like the most and is safer.

Twitter Users on iOS Can Now Directly Share Tweets to Instagram Stories

Most of your Instagram users must have seen a Stories that displays screenshots of tweets taken from Twitter. Indeed, many Instagram users share interesting tweets from Twitter to the platform.

But to do so, users certainly have to be a bit bothered because they have to open the Twitter application, look for fun tweets, take screenshots, open the Instagram application, and upload.

However, Twitter seems to understand that many of its users often upload tweets from Twitter to Instagram, especially Stories. So from that now it has released a new feature.

It is known that Twitter has now brought support for sharing tweets from its app directly to Instagram Stories.

This feature, which is still available on iOS devices, allows users to upload a screenshot of a Tweet to Instagram Stories by pressing the Share Tweet option and selecting the Instagram Stories option.

“Please stop uploading screenshots from Twitter to IG Stories. Because now you can share them directly on iOS,” wrote the official account from Twitter.

Previously the Share Tweet feature itself allowed Twitter users to share tweets to applications such as Messages to Mail. But the presence of support for Instagram Stories will certainly make it easier for Twitter users who are also active on Instagram.

AI Technology from Facebook Can Track Where Deepfake Videos Come From

Currently, the development of Artificial Intelligence or AI technology is indeed very rapid. Now AI can be used to do some things that are difficult for humans to do due to limited resources and time.

But now AI can also be used to do negative things, one of which is by creating deepfake videos to deceive people on the internet, especially social media.

Adobe itself has previously made an AI that can detect if a photo is edited from Photoshop or not. Now Facebook has also announced a technology that is quite similar but specifically for deepfakes.

Developed in collaboration with researchers from Michigan State University, it is known that Facebook has created an AI that can not only detect deepfake videos, but also track where the deepfake videos are coming from.

It was stated that his party used a reverse engineering method to find data related to where the video was uploaded and who the person who made the deepfake video was.

“By looking at the attributes of the image and then tracing the properties of the model used to create the image, we were able to see where the model came from to become a deepfake video,” the researcher said.

In addition, it is stated that this AI can not only be used for one deepfake video, but also various kinds of deepfakes so that this technology can be used to uncover misinformation circulating on the internet.

Because of Deleting President's Tweets, Nigeria Blocks Twitter Sites

The Nigerian government has just blocked the social media site Twitter indefinitely. It is stated that the reason for this blocking is because Twitter is often used for activities that can damage many companies in the country.

It is known that the ban was enforced after a tweet belonging to the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, was deleted for reasons of abusive behavior.

The deleted tweet discussed the separatist law in which Buhari said that nowadays people who behave badly are not aware of the destruction and loss of life during the Biafran war.

The Ministry of Information and Culture of Nigeria also confirmed the ban, where the microblogging site is now inaccessible indefinitely.

“The Federal Government has suspended the operations of Twitter in Nigeria. The Federal Government suspended Twitter indefinitely,” the statement quoted the Nigerian government from CNN.

On the other hand, Twitter regrets the blocking and its team is working hard to restore access from its site in Nigeria.
