2 Ways to Change icon Size on the Windows 11 Taskbar

Ways to Change icon Size on the Windows 11 Taskbar

There are two ways to change the icon size on the Windows 11 taskbar through the Registry Editor. Users can reduce or enlarge the size of the icon on the taskbar as desired.

Windows 11 comes with a taskbar that contains several icons. The number of icons on the taskbar will continue to grow as more software is run.

Each icon comes with a uniform size. The distance between the icons is also the same. Thanks to the uniform spacing and size of icons, the taskbar can still look neat at all times even if you run a lot of software.

Actually, the size of the icon on the taskbar in Windows 11 has been carefully regulated by Microsoft so that it is clearly visible to all users.

However, maybe you want the icon size to be larger or smaller. Fortunately, changing the size of the icons on the Windows 11 taskbar is easy, although you should take the time to do it through the Registry Editor.

How to Change the Icon Size on the Windows 11 Taskbar by Editing the Registry

1. Open the Registry Editor window. To do this, press the Windows logo key and the letter R key simultaneously to bring up the Run dialog box, type Regedit , then click OK.

2. If the User Account Control (UAC) window appears, click the Yes button.

3. In the Registry Editor window, copy and paste the following text into the address bar:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

4. After the text is pasted, immediately press the Enter key on your keyboard to open the Advanced folder in the Registry Editor.

5. Right-click on the Advanced folder as shown by the arrow in the image below, then click New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.

6. Change the name to TaskbarSi.

7. Double-click on the taskbar, then fill in the Value data column with one of the following numbers:

  • Fill with the number 0 to display the smallest taskbar icon.
  • Fill in the number 1 to display a medium-sized taskbar icon.
  • Fill in the number 2 to display the taskbar icon with the largest size.

8. Launch Task Manager, locate and right-click on Windows Explorer, then click Restart. The taskbar will disappear for a while before then reappearing with the icon size that has changed.

How to Change the Icon Size on the Windows 11 Taskbar Using Registry Files

This method is basically the same as above, but more practical because you don’t need to enter the Registry Editor to edit it manually. Simply by clicking on the file that we have provided.

  1. Download the registry file from this link
  2. Run File Explorer, open the Downloads folder, locate and right-click on the zip file named EditRegistry, then click Extract All.
  3. Click Extract.
  4. Open the EditRegistry folder, then double-click on the small icon taskbar, or icontaskbarmedium , or large icon taskbar according to the size of the icon you want.
  5. Launch Task Manager, locate and right-click on Windows Explorer, then click Restart. After that, the size of the icon on the taskbar will change according to the file you selected in the previous step.

By changing the size of the icon on the taskbar to the smallest size, the taskbar can accommodate more icons. But most users probably won’t need it because Windows 11 relies on the icon grouping feature to tidy up icons.

This feature groups all the same icons into one icon to minimize the number of icons on the taskbar.

If you do not like the appearance of the icon after the size is changed, you can change the size of the icon on the Windows 11 taskbar as before by deleting TaskbarSi in the Registry Editor window, then restarting Windows Explorer via Task Manager, or restarting the computer, or Signing out and logging in again.

That’s a review of how to change the icon size on the Windows 11 taskbar. Hopefully this helps.
