Windows 10 Features Missing in Windows 11

Published

on

Windows 11 is predicted to launch on October 20 next

Windows 11 will soon come with a number of new and cool features, but even so, the operating system will not bring some of the old features in Windows 10. Windows 11 removes a number of features that were previously in Windows 10. The following the list.

Cortana

One of the boldest yet underused features that would later be removed in Windows 11 is Cortana. Indeed, there are a number of users who have used this feature before, but for sure Cortana will no longer be perched on the Windows 11 Taskbar.

Cortana fails to become an icon or part of the Search function in Windows 11, as has been seen. However, Cortana will still exist even though in the form of a separate application.

Internet Explorer

It’s well known that Microsoft will shut down Internet Explorer next year and Windows 11 is there to bury it. Microsoft will not include Internet Explorer in Windows 11 but will be part of the Edge browser as IE Mode.

Tablet Mode

Tablet Mode, which used to be used for Surface Pro Windows 10 devices, will not be present in Windows 11. As the name implies, it works with tablet devices. Initially, Windows eliminated the use of hardware keyboards on tablets, and later introduced Tablet Mode, adopting a touch-friendly interface.

Microsoft is now removing Tablet Mode, which makes the new interface more adaptable, so usage remains consistent across devices. Microsoft also says that new functions and capabilities have been included for the keyboard mounting and removing positions. This means that the functionality will remain but will not require additional modes.

Quick Status

Windows 10 users can place apps on the Lock Screen page, so users can see future calendar notifications, or get alerts about weather changes. Later in Windows 11, this function will be replaced through Widgets, so Microsoft removes the Quick Status feature on the Windows 11 Lock Screen.

Start Screen

In Windows 10, users can add app icons on the Start page, and group them in small, medium, or large-sized boxes with additional animations. In Windows 11, users will no longer be able to change the size of the Start page, including Live Tiles will be removed.

Apps and sites that have been embedded in Windows 10 will not carry over to Windows 11. Thus users use a smaller app library list.

2 Ways to Change icon Size on the Windows 11 Taskbar

Ways to Change icon Size on the Windows 11 Taskbar

There are two ways to change the icon size on the Windows 11 taskbar through the Registry Editor. Users can reduce or enlarge the size of the icon on the taskbar as desired.

Windows 11 comes with a taskbar that contains several icons. The number of icons on the taskbar will continue to grow as more software is run.

Each icon comes with a uniform size. The distance between the icons is also the same. Thanks to the uniform spacing and size of icons, the taskbar can still look neat at all times even if you run a lot of software.

Actually, the size of the icon on the taskbar in Windows 11 has been carefully regulated by Microsoft so that it is clearly visible to all users.

However, maybe you want the icon size to be larger or smaller. Fortunately, changing the size of the icons on the Windows 11 taskbar is easy, although you should take the time to do it through the Registry Editor.

How to Change the Icon Size on the Windows 11 Taskbar by Editing the Registry

1. Open the Registry Editor window. To do this, press the Windows logo key and the letter R key simultaneously to bring up the Run dialog box, type Regedit , then click OK.

2. If the User Account Control (UAC) window appears, click the Yes button.

3. In the Registry Editor window, copy and paste the following text into the address bar:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

4. After the text is pasted, immediately press the Enter key on your keyboard to open the Advanced folder in the Registry Editor.

5. Right-click on the Advanced folder as shown by the arrow in the image below, then click New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.

6. Change the name to TaskbarSi.

7. Double-click on the taskbar, then fill in the Value data column with one of the following numbers:

  • Fill with the number 0 to display the smallest taskbar icon.
  • Fill in the number 1 to display a medium-sized taskbar icon.
  • Fill in the number 2 to display the taskbar icon with the largest size.

8. Launch Task Manager, locate and right-click on Windows Explorer, then click Restart. The taskbar will disappear for a while before then reappearing with the icon size that has changed.

How to Change the Icon Size on the Windows 11 Taskbar Using Registry Files

This method is basically the same as above, but more practical because you don’t need to enter the Registry Editor to edit it manually. Simply by clicking on the file that we have provided.

  1. Download the registry file from this link
  2. Run File Explorer, open the Downloads folder, locate and right-click on the zip file named EditRegistry, then click Extract All.
  3. Click Extract.
  4. Open the EditRegistry folder, then double-click on the small icon taskbar, or icontaskbarmedium , or large icon taskbar according to the size of the icon you want.
  5. Launch Task Manager, locate and right-click on Windows Explorer, then click Restart. After that, the size of the icon on the taskbar will change according to the file you selected in the previous step.

By changing the size of the icon on the taskbar to the smallest size, the taskbar can accommodate more icons. But most users probably won’t need it because Windows 11 relies on the icon grouping feature to tidy up icons.

This feature groups all the same icons into one icon to minimize the number of icons on the taskbar.

If you do not like the appearance of the icon after the size is changed, you can change the size of the icon on the Windows 11 taskbar as before by deleting TaskbarSi in the Registry Editor window, then restarting Windows Explorer via Task Manager, or restarting the computer, or Signing out and logging in again.

That’s a review of how to change the icon size on the Windows 11 taskbar. Hopefully this helps.
